Berkeley County to Host Overdue Tax Sale Dec.6 to Nexton

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC – Berkeley County to hold its annual overdue tax sale on Monday 6 December of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. inside the Azalea Ballroom at the Lowcountry Conference Center in Nexton, located at 406 Sigma Dr. in Summerville. If additional days are required, the tax sale will continue on Tuesday, December 7 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The sale of mobile homes will begin after the end of the sale of land.

Property taxes for the 2020 tax year must be paid no later than 5 p.m. Friday December 3, 2021 to avoid tax sale.

In an effort to practice social distancing due to COVID-19, there will again be an online auction option for bidders, in addition to the direct tax sale.

Due to COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines, only registered bidders will be allowed to participate in the tax sale. ** ALL money from the sale will be collected during the sale. **

REGISTRATION: Registration to participate in the Open Tax Sale Thursday November 18. Registration MUST be completed no later than 5 p.m. on December 1. Registration will NOT be allowed on the day of the sale. Visit berkeleycountysc.gov/taxsale2021 to register for the auction in person or online (available November 18).

Masks will NOT be mandatory during the sale but are strongly encouraged.

All real estate and mobile homes with overdue taxes are subject to sale. To avoid the sale, all overdue taxes, dues, penalties and fees must be received and processed by the county by 5 p.m. Friday December 3. Only cash, money orders, cashier’s checks, attorney escrow / escrow account checks, or credit / debit cards (with transaction fees of 0.30 cents and 2.50%) will be accepted for the payment of taxes. NO payment will be accepted on the day of the Tax Sale.

Individuals can make payments in any of the following ways:

  • In person (by 5 p.m. Friday December 3) – at the Berkeley County Delinquent Tax Office, located at 1003 Highway 52, Moncks Corner, SC 29461
  • Online – taxes.berkeleycountysc.gov (by 11:59 p.m. Sunday, December 5)
  • By Mail – send to Berkeley County Tax Collector, PO Box 6122, Moncks Corner, SC 29461
    • Fed-ex / overnight – send to Berkeley County Tax Collector, 1003 Highway 52, Moncks Corner, SC 29461
    • * All mail MUST be stamped by December 3.

Real and personal property must be advertised before the tax sale. The list will first be published in the Charleston Post and Courier and was recently made available on the county’s website at November 18, 2021. The list will again be advertised in print and online media at 25 november and December 2. The list will be in the name of the current owner and the defaulting taxpayer, defined by South Carolina laws as the registered owner on December 31 of the year preceding the tax year.

The list of mobile homes will be announced and available online for two consecutive weeks, starting at 25 november and December 2.
